Temperatures to Climb This Week Across Maryland

The heat on Monday is just the tip of the iceberg, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures will be in the nineties Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday across Maryland, the District of Columbia and northern Virginia, according to the National Weather Service.

On Wednesday, high humidity and temperatures could make it feel over 100 degrees on the heat index, the National Weather Service reported, specifically along the Interstate 95 corridor in the afternoon and evening.

Temperatures aren't the only thing to watch, weather forecasters say.

An air quality alert of "code orange"—meaning the concentration of pollutants may be harmful to children, asthmatics, those with heart or lung diseases and the elderly—is in effect Tuesday. People should avoid strenuous activity or outdoor exercise on Tuesday, according to the alert, issued by the Maryland Department of the Environment.

Scattered thunderstorms Monday and Wednesday evenings may be accompanied by strong winds, according to the National Weather Service.

Tidal flooding is possible Tuesday morning along the western shores of the Chesapeake Bay, the weather service reported.
