TriColumbia Launches Registration for 2014 Columbia and Rocky Gap Triathlons & Aquabikes December 12 at 9:00 a.m.

More than 5,000 across the region will test their endurance and strength in this spring’s dynamic duo!

Columbia, Md. – TriColumbia, the Mid-Atlantic’s premier endurance event production company, today announced it will open registration for its spring dynamic duo, the Columbia Triathlon & Aquabike and the Rocky Gap Triathlon & Aquabike, on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. More than 5,000 endurance athletes across the region will put their minds and bodies to the test this May with two challenging events just two weeks apart! The Columbia Triathlon & Aquabike will take place Sunday, May 18, 2014 at Centennial Park in Columbia, Md., followed by the Rocky Gap Triathlon & Aquabike on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Rocky Gap State Park in Flintstone, Md.

The Columbia Triathlon, one of the country’s oldest and longest running triathlons dating back to 1984, consists of a challenging 0.93 mile swim, 25 mile bike and 6.2 mile run. Endurance athletes will also have the opportunity to participate in the Aquabike, a 0.93 mile swim in Centennial Lake, followed by a 25 mile bike through Centennial Park. Both the Triathlon and Aquabike will benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) Maryland Chapter, the largest blood cancer research and support organization in the world. The Columbia Triathlon will also serve as a qualifier for the 2014 5150 Hy-Vee U.S. Championship in Des Moines, Iowa.

The 27th annual Rocky Gap Triathlon will offer both International Distance (0.93 mile swim, 22 mile bike, 5 mile run) and Sprint Distance (.025 mile swim, 8 mile bike, 2.5 mile run) events through scenic Rocky Gap State Park. This year’s race will also offer endurance athletes the opportunity to compete in the Aquabike, a 0.93 mile swim in Lake Habeeb, followed by a 22 mile bike through Rocky Gap State Park. The races will benefit the Cumberland YMCA, which serves community members in Allegheny County and the Tri-State region through programs and services that promote lifelong growth and the balanced development of spirit, mind and body.

“Coined the spring’s ‘dynamic duo’ with their close proximity, we are excited to offer two of our signature events within two weeks,” said LJ White, Executive Director at TriColumbia. “Whether athletes choose to tackle one race, or challenge themselves to complete both, they know they will be provided with a premier race experience unlike any other, while supporting local charitable organizations whose missions are to benefit our communities!”
