MACS is a private nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening agencies to better support people with developmental disabilities and their families in their own communities.
Dean has devoted two decades of service to The Arc of Howard County, serving in leadership positions on The Arc’s Board of Directors, including as President, as well as on many committees. He and his wife, Carol, headed The Arc’s successful 50th Anniversary Campaign, and he is currently chair of the Resource Development Committee.
Dean, according to The Arc’s Executive Director, Carol A. Beatty, “has been a valuable adviser and a leader who leads by example through his personal engagement, shared expertise and financial generosity.” Dean is owner of Environmental Systems Associates, a frequent sponsor of The Arc events and a donor to its fundraising initiatives, including the Silver Arc Legacy Fund, an endowment fund established to provide income in perpetuity to meet the needs of the The Arc and the people it serves.
Dean is the father of a young woman served by The Arc and the stepfather of another young woman served by The Arc.
Since its inception in 1961, The Arc has become one of Howard County’s largest employers, with more than 300 staff members and hundreds of volunteers working to achieve full community life for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It provides a range of residential, employment and family support services.
