Community Corner

Columbia Art Center Event

Sunday September 15 th. Parents, teachers, students and all community members are invited to the Columbia Association Art Center (in Long Reach Village Center) for a day of "Artful Resistance" as part of the nation-wide Save Our Schools campaign.  This event encourages participants to create artful ways to respond to the negative effects that high stakes testing and other education policies are having on our schools and our children.  Through various art forms such as poetry and painting, and guided by our "artful" facilitators, participants can express: 1) what they love about their schools and education, 2) what they love but has been lost due to the emphasis on standardized tests, 3) visions of inspiring and meaningful public education. This event is free and open to the public. No artistic experience or talent necessary. Sunday, Sept. 15th, 1:00-2:00 Panel discussion; 2:00-5:00 Art sessions.  For more information email bessaltwer@aol.com or mcdermottmax@yahoo.com.
