TAKE THE Y-FI CHALLENGE:  PUT YOUR MONEY SKILLS TO THE TEST!

Join makingCHANGE and Junior Achievement of Central Maryland for Y-Fi, a Youth Finance event, on Saturday, January 26, 2013, from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm at Howard Community College.  This free activity is designed for youth ages 12-18 and their parents or guardians.  Drop in for a 60-90 minute, “real life” simulation of financial planning, goal setting and decision making experiences.

During this interactive event, students will:

·         Receive a career, find out how much the job pays, and stretch their paychecks to cover all of their expenses.

·         Go “shopping” and stick to a budget as they make choices on transportation, housing, utilities, food, clothing and much, much more!

·         Watch out for an “Unlucky Chance” card which could wreak havoc on their monthly budget.

Younger students will gain an appreciation of the tough financial choices adults have to make each day. Older students will learn how career, education and spending choices can have a direct impact on their success. Families will learn how to support each other in making earning, spending and saving choices.
