Hope for the Homeless 5k and Fun Run
Registration is now open for the Hope for the Homeless 5k trail race set for Saturday, May 5, at Rockburn Park in Elkridge. The event is a benefit for the Grassroots Day Resource Center, which provides services, meals and limited medical care to people who are chronically homeless.
The 5k trail run features a shady one-loop course with beautiful scenery in the woods on low impact surfaces. Pets are allowed on the course. No strollers are permitted on the 5k trail. Trophies will be presented for the Top 3 Overall, and for the Top 3 in each age group, male and female. The 5k starts at 9 a.m.
A one-mile fun walk/run is also available, and pets and strollers are welcome. There are no prizes for the fun walk/run. It starts at 9:15 a.m.
The entry fee for both the 5k and the fun walk/run is $20 for those who register by April 15; a t-shirt is included. Late registrants pay $30 and cannot be guaranteed a t-shirt. Race day registration starts at 8 a.m.
Participants are encouraged to donate items to the Grassroots Day Resource Center on the day of the event. Items needed include socks, jeans, canned fruit, tuna, and canned pastas.
Sponsorships are available from $250 to $1000 and include signage and other recognition.
The Hope for the Homeless events are coordinated by the Grassroots Day Resource Center, Bethany Lane Baptist Church, Mid-Maryland Baptist Association, CrossLife Community Church, County Council member Calvin Ball of District 2, and the Columbia Lions Club.
