One thing that has been a big topic among fellow Mitt Romney supporters for the past few weeks at my daily website is our complete confusion as to why self-proclaimed social and fiscal conservatives have thrown their support behind Newt Gingrich who in many ways by his actions is clearly not a conservative by their supposed definition of what a conservative is supposed to be, especially when there is a candidate, Rick Santorum, who is probably much more aligned with their views.
We have new polling from Public Policy Polling this morning from the the three states tonight holding caucus or primary events showing that the self-proclaimed conservatives may finally be shifting to someone who actually believes what they claim to believe.
PRESIDENT – COLORADO – GOP CAUCUS (PPP)
Mitt Romney 37%
Rick Santorum 27%
Newt Gingrich 21%
Ron Paul 13%PRESIDENT – MINNESOTA – GOP CAUCUS (PPP)
Rick Santorum 33%
Mitt Romney 24%
Newt Gingrich 22%
Ron Paul 20%PRESIDENT – MISSOURI – GOP PRIMARY (PPP)
Rick Santorum 45%
Mitt Romney 32%
Ron Paul 19%
The CO poll was done February 4-6 among 938 likely caucus goers. The MN poll was done February 4-6 among 864 likely caucus goers. The MO poll was done February 6th among 958 likely primary voters. What is even more interesting is it has been Gingrich who has been telling the other candidates to drop out so he could take on Romney one-on-one. Trailing Santorum in the two states that he actually got on the ballot for isn’t exactly going to help his cause.

Be careful when you say that "self-proclaimed social and fiscal conservatives have thrown their support behind Newt Gingrich"....this is just like the bias and liberal press which completely is in the tank for Obama has preordained that Romney is the pick for the Rep. My vote is still undecided to who I would pick. Newt is not a Reagan conservative but may be the most intelligent guy on the stage, but not on all issues!!!

Romney is the best all around candidate. Santorum is okay, but has zero executive experience. We already have a Pres now that lacks leadership experience --- so we don't want to elect another one.

How can you say that Santorum does not have experience???? 12 years as a state senator, constitutional lawyer, community leader, etc. Romney was gov't of Mass for heaven sakes...Let's continue to vet ALL the candidates before we pick one. Again I am an ABO!!!

Ah. So if you are "ABO", you don't need to vet anyone. Just pick some do-dah that isn't Obama. This is beyond ridiculous. You can complain as much as you want about the "liberal" press but I can match you example for example with Fox News.

Exactly. This is what is wrong with the political system. The politicians and the media encourage the general public that X side is their enemy, so all the sheeple blindly vote for Y side just because they don't want X to win. It doesn't matter if the candidate for Y actually fits the majority of their views or, in many cases, is little different from X... they're told X is against them, so they vote for Y regardless.
As an independent and a moderate, I'm still not sure who I'd vote for in the general election. I can tell you that the Republican candidates aren't looking good, with old-timer hypocrisy, corporate money, and religious ignorance as the fore-runners. Right now, even though I still don't agree with some of his beliefs, there's only one candidate that's proven he won't fall into these broad, illusionary categories of "us vs them".
