Today in Columbia: Rain, Smart Students, Ravens Excitement

I'm hoping the Ravens win the AFC title so I can get some new championship gear. My 11-year-old Super Bowl clothing is getting a bit tattered.

The Weather

"Rain, mainly before 1pm. High near 54. South wind between 11 and 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. Tonight: A slight chance of showers between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 34. South wind 15 to 17 mph becoming west. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent. — The National Weather Service

Kudos:

Three Columbia residents are among the 522 students named to the Mount St. Mary's University Dean's List for the fall semester, according to readmedia Newswire.

Alexandra Kochanski, a senior, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Kochanski.

Sophomore Mathew Kuhn is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Terry Kuhn.

Emily Howse, a senior, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Howse.

Mount St. Mary's, in Emmitsburg, MD, was established in 1808 and is the nation's second-oldest Catholic university in the country.

Question of the Day:

What do you thing of the Baltimore Ravens' chances against the New England Patriots in this weekend's American Football Conference championship game?

Will you be listing students who made the Dean's List at other schools? Particularly freshmen, usually shell-shocked from the little demanded by HoCo high schools.

I publish the names as I receive them from colleges and news services hired by the colleges to put the word out. There's a sophomore on this list!
