Taco Bell Manager Critically Injured in Shooting
Police say the shooting occurred early Sunday at the Taco Bell on Minstrel Way.
Police are investigating a shooting that left a Taco Bell manager in critical condition after he was shot several times outside his business, according to a Howard County police press release.
Police said they responded to the 7100 block of Minstrel Way at 12:50 a.m. on Sunday for a person who had been shot. An investigation revealed that the Taco Bell manager was confronted by two unknown male subjects outside of the store who then began shooting at him, police said.
According to the release, the manager was struck several times, but was able to make it back into the Taco Bell. Two other employees, who were inside the store at the time of the shooting, called 911.
The manager was flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center where he is listed in critical condition. The manager’s name has not been released.
According to the release, the investigation is ongoing and a motive is not known at this time.

Actually, I agree with you, H.R. My husband and I are in the process of buying a new home outside of Columbia. Unfortunately, it will be hard to sell our current property because of how far downhill the schools and area have slid.
And, Lisa R., I will probably continue to read the Columbia Patch after we move. Why would that be so impossibe to believe?

actually I do find it hard to believe that you would continue to read and post negative comments on the Columbia Patch after moving away (especially 10 years ago!!)... get a life! Have you ever considered that your attitude is part of the reason this place is "such a dump". If you can't embrace your neighbors and community, please leave. Also you should feel lucky to own a home here or anywhere - a lot of us are not so fortunate...

LER- I don't know why I'm entertaining your massive delusions, but if you click my profile you will see that my "home" Patch location is Ellicott City. I usually read Columbia, EC and sometimes even Elkridge Patch. Perhaps if you cared for Columbia as much as you care for for where I live, you might be able to make a difference.

I don't care where you live- you went way out of your way just to hate on my community. That just seems silly and hateful. Are YOU making a contribution by doing that? I definitely don't post insults on the Ellicott City page...

i would think most of us Columbians (since the 1970s), are very grateful that people who have such negativity have left our town. Please acept our thanks.

The manager was not confronted by two guys. There was a fight between two men in the parkig lot and the manager tried to break it up and was shot in the scuffle. Correct facts are important, this was not a attempted robbery or someone randomly shooting!
Wrong information like this makes Columbia look unsafe which its not!

Hi MxG, we wrote this from a police news release, that didn't indicate a fight. Were you a witness? If you're uncomfortable posting here, contact me at andrew.metcalf@patch.com

If a fight at the mall involves a gun, I would call that unsafe. If you've been watching the patch over the last several months there have been numerous robberies in broad daylight and at night in the mall area. Time to be aware of our surroundings and follow some common sense rules to not put ourselves in harms way.

I heard the police helicopter and knew something bad was going on. They circled for about an hour. This place is getting like the OK Corral!

I have live in Columbia over ten years and the crimes have increasingly gotten more and more violent and brazen! I despise the fact that they put in that bus system and I notice that there are just more and more random people in the area!

To call Columbia a dump seems ignorant of the fact that it is an Anerican city, with problems common to cities everywhere. Many of us live safely here, enjoy its many amenities and park-like setting. I love the diversity and friendly neighborhoods, and resent having Columbia summarily "dis-ed".

Wow. My heart goes out to the manager and the manager's family, as well as the employees. That Taco Bell has a lot of really nice people working there and it must have been such a shock to them.

Find whomever shot the manager, beyond a reasonable doubt, have a trial and execute them, no need to have them bring us all down mooching off us tax payers in prison. Adopt a policy of zero tolerance for this type of violence in the community. Kill the killers. So much for going out to get a taco, don't need that kind of hassle. Whomever you are that did this, do yourself a favor and shoot yourself in the head you worthless piece of shit.

Police, Find who did this and put them to death, we promise not to give you a hard time if you accidentally kill these guys when attempting to arrest them. Whomever you are, do everyone else a favor and shoot yourself in the head, no need to waste our tax money mooching of us law abiding citizen while you sit in jail.

The problem is that Columbia has over expanded (even though ken Ulman ran on the platform he would not over develop Columbia--he and his buddies need to go). They did not take the time to rebuild the necessary infrastructure with the police force and now Columbia and surrounding areas are prime targets for criminal elements outside its boundaries. They can get in and out through several major corridors. Compound this with the problem that we are 1 of 5 counties in the entire United States that cannot own non-lethal weapons such as a taser and they have nothing to fear. In one instance police sat and watched a man being held up by gun point with a .45 caliber handgun. Utterly freaking useless. First thing is we need to get rid of the cronies that brought about this destruction, enforce current rules and regs and stop letting criminals out on low bail, and last get a police force that acts on criminals not traffic cops that like to bully the average joe.

Hey Patch, how about letting us know whether violent crime is increasing or decreasing in Columbia? It's going down sharply over the last twenty years almost everywhere in the US. Is Columbia a rare exception, or is this story just one rare crime in a world in which such crimes are getting more and more infrequent?
