If one of your New Year's resolutions is to get more involved in your community, the Columbia Association is offering opportunities to get you off to a good start.

Budget meeting Thursday:

The Board of Directors' Planning and Strategy Committee will hold a public meeting on the proposed fiscal year 2013 and conditional fiscal year 2014 budgets at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Slayton House, 10400 Cross Fox Lane.

Association staff members will present budget highlights and residents can make comments and ask questions.

Community members will also be able to comment publicly on the proposed budgets at a public hearing at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 25, at the association's headquarters, 10221 Wincopin Circle.

Biggest Winner Registration Ends Jan. 13

If one of your resolutions is to lose weight and get in shape, the Columbia Association can help you there as well.

Registration for the third Biggest Winner Contest, an eight-week weight loss and fitness challenge, will be held through Jan. 13., according to an association press release.

The program will be held at all three association fitness facilities. Participants will work to achieve personal goals while also contributing to their team's efforts.

Biggest Winner participants will compete in teams of four and will receive two, one-hour team personal training sessions per week, including weekly team healthy lifestyle “pep talks;" personalized workouts to be completed outside of team training sessions; weekly individual and team challenges; a two-month individual CA Package Plan Plus membership; kick-off and celebration events; T-shirts; health seminars; discounts from local vendors; and weekly weigh-ins.

Prizes will be awarded to both the individual and the team with the highest percentage of weight lost.

A kick-off event will be held at noon Jan.14, at the Columbia Gym, 6151 Daylong Lane in Clarksville.
