Readers' Choice: Victoria Gastro Pub for Brunch

Victoria Gastro Pub offers an upscale, but unpretentious brunch that is our readers' favorite.

Victoria Gastro Pub, a self-described warm, inviting and unpretentious English-style pub, has been chosen by readers as their favorite destination in Columbia for brunch.

Although the poll for best brunch restaurant came out tied, Victoria Gastro Pub has been declared the winner thanks to favorable comments on its Patch directory listing.

When voting closed on Wednesday morning, Clyde's of Columbia and Victoria Gastro Pub were tied with 24 percent of the vote. But Readers' Choice also considers directory reviews and Victoria's had two glowing ones.

"Food is good (pricey but worth it) and the beer list is insane," wrote Eric S. "Also, poutine with duck fat fries, and one of those 'You'll probably die, but it'll be worth it."

"One of Howard County's best," wrote John Boyle. "Great menu items, great specials and great beers."

Victoria will be having a Mother's Day brunch menu on Sunday that includes French toast with banana, rum and pecan with vanilla whipped cream ($8); English breakfast served with smoked bacon, maple sausage and Guiness baked beans ($10); Lobster and grits ($15), Victoria eggs benedict served with prosciutto, blue crab and citrus hollandaise ($13); and roasted mushroom and leek scrambled eggs with gruyere potato cake and smoked bacon ($9.50).

The brunch menu will be offered from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. In addition, the pub will be serving buckets of duck fat fries ($7), salads, starters and raw oyesters from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

On Wednesday morning, the host at Victoria said they still have some reservations open for Mother's Day at 9:15 and 9:30 a.m., after that, they're booked until 2 p.m.

Poutine and duck fat fries. Gross. You'd think this nation would have an obesity problem, eating all this crap.

Hah, they also offer Caesar salad and asparagus fries, it's all about consumer choice, right?

Surely we'd be doomed if we had access to McPoutine like they do in Quebec.

Yeah, I'm not blaming Victoria's for giving people what they want. They could serve pig feces fries for all I care. It was more of a ding on the 80% of our population that has clearly given up on even attempting to be healthy.

Michael, your mention of McPoutine in Quebec reminds me I need to get back up there.
