Coon Hunt Court is no longer. On Monday, County Executive Ken Ulman and County Council member Calvin Ball joined local residents as the old street sign officially came down and the new one, April Wind Court, went up.

Residents submitted a petition for a name change of the street due to its racial connotations back in July. On Sept. 7, the zoning board unanimously granted the name change. April Wind Court is off of Thunder Hill Road.

The OPC ( Overly Politically Correct ) gang strikes again!! Have we truly become this racially oversensitive, and especially since Obama took office? Everyone in the world understood that the "coon" referenced in the street name was a "raccoon." Only the OPC's would somehow find it racially offensive. So, why not just change it to Raccoon Hunt Court?

There's already a Raccoon Court just a few blocks away.

I believe the sign was stolen on a pretty regular basis, so it must have had racial significance for someone.

Because it was stolen often...it must have a racial significance? How did you come up with that conclusion? It's probably stolen by Rural Marylanders to mark the driveway to their hunting camp. Kinda like Pheasants Landing, Deer Run, Grouse Ln. ETC. What's next? We rename the Coonhound? It must be a racist dog...perhaps we should send it to diversity training and call it "Dogwhotreesanimals". PC in Columbia...how is this news?

If someone is offended by the name, isn't it basic decency to say "okay" to the change? What value is added to anyone's life keeping the word "Coon" in a street name? I know my husband and I were offended by the name. We're glad we don't have to see that sign ever again.
