Maybe you’ve planned your destination, your outfit – who you plan to steal a kiss from when the clock strikes midnight.
But do you have a plan to get home?
New Year’s Eve is “among the deadliest days” on U.S. roadways, according to AAA, and consistently ranks among the top days for alcohol-related driving fatalities.
If you are planning to drink tonight and do not have a designated driver, there are a couple of ways to secure a safe, sober ride home.
For New Year’s Eve in the Baltimore metro area, the company has available its “personal driver service.” A driver will come to your house, and drive you in your own car to your destination.
The fee is $24.50/hr. Call to make reservations: 1-877-U-B-MYDD (1-877-823-6933)
AAA also offers these tips for ensuring a safe night out, any night of the year:
- Always plan ahead to designate a non-drinking driver before any party or celebration begins.
- Never ride as a passenger in a car driven by someone who has been drinking alcohol – even after just one drink.
- Use mass transit or call a taxi. (Please note: the Tipsy?Taxi! program in Baltimore will not be operating this year.)
- If you encounter an impaired driver on the road, keep a safe distance and ask a passenger to call 911 (or pull over to a safe location to make the call yourself).
