Delegates Frank Turner and Guy Guzzone, Board of Education Member Ellen Flynn Giles, County Council member Jen Terrasa and Howard County Public School System's Chief Academic Officer, Linda Wise, were all on hand to help Hammond High School officially open their newly installed synthetic turf field.
Before kick off of the first game of the season, Principal Marcy Leonard thanked those who worked on the school's behalf, in particular, former Booster President, Ralph Albano, who rallied support for the field among Hammond parents and community members. With over 30 years at Hammond, Joe Russo, Athletic and Activities Manager, cut the ribbon.
Hammond won the game 29-0 against Marriott's Ridge.

Athletics and Activities Manager, Joe Russo who is also one of the people who is charged with monitoring the field to make sure it was not too hot to play on. At 105 degrees the field is supposed to be shut down but again today 5 Sep it was so hot the players could feel it burning through their shoes. Wonder how hot that field was on Friday, 125 degrees, 150 degrees? t is a damn shame to endanger our children's health and risk their lives so the AAM can have some pretty carpet and a bunch of politicians and members of the hcpss can garner some points with the community . A real shame the hcpss has continued to decieve the public about artificial turf . Absolutely pathetic for these people to have the gall to appear in public to cut a ribbon when the money was supposed to go to people with disabilities. I guess these folks have no pride and don't mind the rest of Maryland looking at them in embarrassment.
