In announcing her resignation, Francis-Gibson said she believes she has met the goals she originally set when taking the job three years ago, according to the statement.

Since her contract will soon end, she has "decided to resign at this time to pursue another professional opportunity," she said in the statement. "I wish everyone the best as The Foundation moves ahead into 2012."

The foundation's grant process is under way and on schedule, according to Armiger.

More than $625,000 was awarded last year to support 131 human services, arts and cultural, educational and community services organizations and their activities, according to the statement. The group also awarded 12 scholarships.

The Columbia Foundation, which will celebrate its 42nd anniversary this year, is Maryland's oldest community foundation, according to the statement.
