Family Fun in Howard County this Weekend

Here are some fun things to do around town with the family this weekend.

Where/When: Chesapeake Shakespeare Company, Ellicott City, MD 21043, Pre-show discussion starts at 7:00 p.m. / Pride and Prejudice starts at 8:00 p.m.

Why to go:  The Chesapeake Shakespeare Company ventures into the 19th century world of Jane Austen for this outdoor performance. Pre-show discussion with CSC’s Pride and Prejudice Dramaturg, Erin Bone Steele.

Pricing: $15-$36 / Children 18 and under are free with paying adult

Why to go:  The Columbia Association's Lakefront Summer Festival is sponsored by the Columbia Association and held on the lawn at the Columbia Town Center Lakefront off Little Patuxent Pkwy. No admission fee is charged. Parking is free.

Sunday concerts begin at 6:30 pm and all other concerts begin at 8 pm and end by 10 pm.

Every Friday there will be free dance instruction with music will be held under the People Tree at Town Center Lakefront, from 6:30-8pm. When the dance session ends — the movie begins!

Movies begin at dusk (about 8:30 pm). All films are rated (G) unless otherwise noted.

No glass containers or alcoholic beverages are permitted.

Where/When: Clemens Crossing Pool in Hickory Ridge Village on Martin Road and Clemens Crossing Elementary School, Columbia, MD, 7:00 a.m.

Why to go:  TriColumbia Kidz Triathlon provides youth ages 7-15 the opportunity to experience a healthy, fit lifestyle while boosting self-esteem in a fun, family-friendly environment. Kids experience the thrill of a real triathlon just like their adult role models. The event includes chip timing, age group awards, professional photography by ASI, a post-race food tent and party, great music and fabulous volunteers.

Ages 7-8:  Swim 50 yards, bike 2 miles and run .5 miles

Ages 9-10:  Swim 100 yards, bike 2 miles and run .5 miles

Ages 11-12:  Swim 150 yards, bike 4 miles and run 1 mile

Ages 13-14:  Swim 200 yards, bike 6 miles and run 1 mile. Loated at Clemens Crossing Pool in Hickory Ridge Village

Where/When: Linganore Winecellars, 13601 Glissans Mill Rd., Mt Airy, MD 21771, Saturday, July 21 and Sunday, July 22, 2012, Gates open at 10:00 a.m.

Why to go:  Summer is in full effect and so are the wine festivals at Linganore Winery. Get up and dance to the music of Stryker’s Posse and The Image Band.

Where/When: 8600 Foundry Street, Savage, MD 20763, Saturday, July 21, 3:00 p.m.

Why to go:  Enjoy a 12 mile easy ride along the Little Patuxent River riding our comfortable mountain bikes over paved paths and hard packed dirt.  Along with way we often see wildlife and learn about the history of the area. We arrive at beautiful Lake Elkhorn and travel around this lake for 2 miles enjoying the sites and sounds this park. Then we enjoy some wine, cheese, bread along the lake side before heading back to our base camp at Savage Mill.  We provide bikes, helmet, instructions, wine, cheese, bread.  Must be at least 5 ft. tall and 21 years old. 

Pricing: $59.95 plus tax. Minimum of 4 people, maximum of 12

Why to go:  Check out the seventh season of the Haunted History of Ellicott City Ghost Tours, to hear new stories, now including the most recent eye-witness accounts of paranormal activity.
