Columbia Homeowners Celebrate Renovation with Graffiti

You don't see this very often in Columbia.

Graffiti on a house in Columbia? If you've driven down Smooth Path in Owen Brown in the past few days, you might have seen the spray painted house. But don't worry village board leaders, it's only temporary.

For Susan and Brian Coughlin, the homeowners, the graffiti was a way to celebrate their upcoming renovations.

After receiving approval from the local village board to put new windows, siding and doors on their home, they decided to have some fun.

Over Memorial Day weekend, the couple invited over their friends, distributed over 20 cans of spray paint and went to town on the siding and windows of their home.

The result is peace signs, blue eyes, PacMan, and a group of ducklings being led away by their mother.

But if any neighbors are worried the new decorations are permanent, do not fear. The Coughlins said on Tuesday most of the 30-plus year old siding and windows will be removed this week and replaced.

"Who knows how many years will pass before the house gets another facelift," said Susan Coughlin. "It will be a fun surprise for the next folks who embark on that task."

The family even wrote about the project on their blog.
