Sherman Elected Chair of Women's Giving Circle

Columbia resident Caroline Sherman, the Business Development Officer for UHY Advisors Mid Atlantic, has been elected Chair of the Advisory Board of the Women’s Giving Circle of Howard County.  Sherman has been a member of WGC since its beginning 10 years ago and has been Chair of the Grants Committee for the past three years.

 Re-elected Vice Chair was Megan Bruno, who is Chair of the Donor Development Committee and a member of the Circle Team, which raises funds for WGC through triathlon and other competitions.  A Fulton resident, Bruno is a photographer with her own business, Starpoet Photography.

Columbia resident Carole MacPhee was re-elected Treasurer.  She is a licensed HUD Property Manager and has worked in the field of affordable housing for 36 years. She is a member of the Donor Development Committee.

In addition to Sherman and Bruno, other Committee Chairs are Joan Webb Scornaienchi, Co-Chair of Grants; Cindy Hankin, Leadership; Barb Nicklas, Communications; and  Kathy Barnett, Youth Development.

WGC is a community of women philanthropists addressing the needs of women and girls in Howard County. Among its activities, WGC has established a scholarship fund at Howard Community College for women who are seeking training to improve their employment options.  WGC has also founded a summer residential camp for middle school girls, Journey, which is held at Washington College.

WGC was founded in 2002 and has over 900 donors, who have contributed and pledged over $900,000 to its donor advised fund with The Columbia Foundation, Howard County’s community foundation.  For information, visit www.womensgivingcircle.org.
